Song of the Body: A Sacred Women's Retreat

Led by Katie Gray and Djuna Mascall

When women gather with the intention and support to release shame, fear, and judgement- powerful transformation can occur. Our weekend retreat will be a space in which to unfold, rest, and nurture your body. Receive the healing medicine of music, yoga, the beauty of Orcas Island, food from the land, and sisterhood.

The yoga practice will be a unique combination of dynamic asana, somatic movement, and pranayama led by Djuna Mascall. We will engage with the asanas as vehicles of insight and nourishment for body and mind. This loving attention for the body allows the mind and heart to settle and deep inner work is possible.

Through motivational speaking, group exercises and a guided meditation sound bath, Katie Gray will lovingly lead the group through a sacred journey of understanding the individual and collective mind. By witnessing that which does not serve, we are able to return to a place of consciousness and presence, allowing for a deeper understanding of Love, acceptance and freedom.

Yoga and Zen: Embodied Practice, Embodied Wisdom

  • Tassajara Zen Mountain Center (map)

Autumn is nature’s time to turn inward; leaves fall and energy returns to roots. Amidst the demands of daily life we can become stuck in constant outward growth. Our view may narrow and body movements become confined, as if fixating on a single star while failing to see the vastness of the night sky. In a day of mindful yoga and Zen practice we will study our perpetual forward movement and explore what it means to “take the backward step”; allow our breath to expand, our bodies to unwind, and our awareness to widen. In doing so, we nourish our own roots. We will dance with the innate presence available in every moment and return home nourished with a fresh perspective and rejuvenated spirit.

Dharma and Yoga: The Practice of Non-Harming

The foundation of Dharma and Yoga is ahimsa or non-harming. Ahimsa can be realized through a kind and nurturing approach to the body. In this day retreat, we will cultivate ahimsa through mindfulness of the nuance of sensation in the body and the subtle pathway of the breath. This will foster calm abiding from which we can see into and transform our underlying habits of aversive thinking and forcing the body.
Our practice will combine mindful asana, somatic movement, pranayama, and meditation on kindness.

Cost: Sliding Scale $75 – 200.

Dharma and Yoga: Joyful Presence

Joy is always available to us, but is often obscured by a distracted mind and contracted body. When we align the mind with the slower rhythms of the body and infuse the body with mindful awareness, joyful ease can arise — even in the midst of difficulty or grief.

This retreat will weave Dharma teachings, meditation, somatic movement, asana, and breath work. We will practice mindfulness of the breath and body for present moment awareness. The yoga practice will be both dynamic and nourishing, cultivating focus and ease through attention to inner alignment and awakening to sensation.

Cost: Sliding Scale $75 – 200.
